Boost Your Interview Brain
20 October 2021
Your brain gets such a workout in a job interview. You have to recall knowledge, interpret the dynamics of the group, impress with your quick thinking, see beyond the question to the real need of the interviewer, even remember strangers names, and ask them intelligent questions. The load is enormous. On top of this you need to deal with your own anxiety and saboteur thinking.
With all this going on it is imperative to do what you can to give your brain a boost before a job interview.
Research has shown that one of the most effective ways to get an immediate enhancement to your cognitive powers, and to think more intelligently, is to engage in exercise.
Moderate intensity exercise will give you the following brain benefits:
- Improved thinking and cognitive flexibility
- Increased attention
- More resistance to distraction
- Greater verbal fluency
- Enhanced problem solving abilities
- Increased working memory
These benefits, that last for up to two hours, come about through the increase in useful neurochemicals and enhanced blood flow to the brain.
Your ideal routine before a job interview then (or before any high stakes situation) is to get moving.
As always, wishing you a flourishing career.
